Double-deck car transporter wagon, type Hccrrss

These double-decker car transporter wagons, with elevating roof, systematically travel as block trains mostly between car factories and large dealers and shippers throughout Europe.

The private wagons of type Hccrrss of the Austrian company Car Rail Logistics GmbH (CRL) - a 50/50 joint venture between Hödlmayr Logistics and ÖBB Industriewaggon AG based in Vienna - were designed in 1999 by the Bratsvo/Serbian Company and accepted by MAV on the 1st March 2001.

Gyõr-Sopron-Ebenfurti Vasút Részvényársaság (GySEV) have 300 wagons in the series 43GySEV 291 5 003 to 43 GySEV 291 5 302 stationed at Wulkaprodersdorf, a small Austrian station on the Hungarian border.

Two twin-axle wagons of 9m wheelbase are permanently connected together to form an indivisible unit with a length between buffers of 27,4m. The wheel diameter is only 760 mm, so that the floor of the lower deck can be as low as possible. The upper deck can be raised and lowered either from one end or wholly as a unit. The raising roof has two positions for travel; during the loading procedure it is raised further. The roof functions as a safety lock for the end doors. The two wagon sections and the two roof sections are usually connected with a weather proof rubber cover.

The lowerable upper deck allows loading and unloading on to a simple front ramp without any need for special equipment. See end view of model. The wagons are externally powered from the electrical supply at the loading station. The upper deck can accommodate 2x6 tonnes and the lower deck 2x6.5 tonnes. The total declared weight of 25 tonnes is shown on the inscription plate.

This special construction not only allows the transport of cars but, by lowering the upper deck, also of larger types such as double-decker minibuses and mini vans, and gives protection against the weather and vandalism.

The white painted wagons carry large advertisements. The roofs are particularly striking in bright red, blue and yellow colours.

Besides GySEV, this wagon type is accepted for the networks of PKB, BDZ, CFR, CD, MAV, ZSR, CH, SZ, HZ, JZ, DB, ÖBB, CFL, SJ, DSB, TCDD, FS, MZ, SNCB and SBB; as at Summer 2003.
